Chey tried to get the kids to eat more veggies, but it was not as easy as you might think. He wasn’t sure it was a big deal, but their nanny insisted. One day, he came up with the idea to bury extra veggies inside a hamburger. This solved two problems: Not only did Jamie and Jade eat more veggies, but it didn’t cost a ton of money he didn’t have for a wide variety of produce. Here’s the recipe for Chey’s (Not Very)Famous Burger.

Ingredients:

  • 6 slices American Cheese

  • 4 mushrooms, chopped

  • 1 carrot, finely chopped

  • 1lb 80/20 ground beef

  • 1/4 cup ketchup

  • salt/pepper

  • 12 slices white bread (or hamburger buns if you want to be fancy)

Combine the chopped veggies. Mix ground beef, salt, pepper and ketchup. Divide into 12 equal balls. Flatten six of them and top with cheese and the vegetable mix.

Flatten remaining balls and cover the filled patties. Pinch sides together to seal the cheese and veggies inside. (It’s important to seal them well so the cheese and veggies don’t escape!)

Heat a tablespoon of oil a large frying pan (or oil your grill). Cook 5-8 minutes on each side. (Public Service Announcement: Ground beef should be cooked to at least medium, an internal temperature of about 160 degrees.)

A delicious looking cheeseburger!

Slide each burger between two slices of bread or into a bun. Chey never does, but you could add extra toppings like tomato, lettuce, pickles, etc.

Enjoy!
